Women’s Health Osteopathy

At One Health Osteopathy Clinic in Tunbridge Wells, we offer specialist osteopathic care designed exclusively for women, supporting you through every stage of life, from periods and pelvic health changes to pregnancy, menopause and beyond. Our osteopaths are educated to Master’s level and have undertaken postgraduate training in women’s health, pelvic health, rehabilitation, clinical Pilates and exercise therapy. This expertise allows us to offer evidence-informed, personalised care that addresses the unique physical, hormonal and biomechanical changes women experience throughout their lives.

Women’s bodies undergo many transitions, from hormonal fluctuations and pregnancy to postnatal recovery, perimenopause and ageing. These changes can affect posture, pelvic floor function, abdominal health, joint mobility, strength, and overall wellbeing. Our role is to support your body’s natural ability to adapt and recover, helping you move with confidence, reduce discomfort, and optimise long-term health.

What to Expect From a Women’s Health Osteopathy Appointment

This is a specialist appointment designed for women of all ages, whether you are experiencing menstrual-related issues, navigating pregnancy or menopause, or seeking support for pelvic health concerns later in life.

Your initial appointment includes a comprehensive, tailored assessment and treatment plan, with time dedicated to understanding your unique needs, goals and lifestyle.

During your appointment, we will complete:

  • A detailed case history covering your health background, lifestyle and current concerns.
  • A full postural screen to assess movement, alignment and muscular balance.
  • A physical examination, which may include a pelvic floor muscle assessment (if required) and abdominal examination where indicated.
  • Screening for bladder, bowel or sexual dysfunction to identify any factors affecting your pelvic or overall health.
  • Assessment of scar tissue where relevant (e.g. following childbirth, surgery, or C-section).

We will then discuss our findings clearly and work collaboratively with you to create a treatment plan that aligns with your goals and lifestyle. Hands-on manual osteopathic treatment will be provided during the appointment, and in most cases a bespoke rehabilitation and exercise programme will also be prescribed to support your recovery and long-term health.

Where relevant, we will also discuss nutrition, gut microbiome health, and stress management strategies, as these factors can significantly influence musculoskeletal and hormonal wellbeing.

Following Your Assessment, You Will Receive:

  • Personalised education and advice to help you understand and manage your condition.
  • A bespoke rehabilitation or exercise programme tailored to your needs.
  • Nutritional and lifestyle guidance relevant to your presenting symptoms and overall health.

Pelvic Floor Examination – Optional

As part of our advanced women’s health training, our osteopath is qualified to perform an internal vaginal examination of the pelvic floor muscles and surrounding organs. This can provide valuable diagnostic information and help guide effective rehabilitation.

This component is completely optional and will only ever be performed if you request it and provide ongoing, informed consent throughout. You will be fully supported to make the decision that feels right for you.

Women’s Health Osteopathy – Frequently Asked Questions

Women’s health osteopathy is a specialist area of osteopathic care that focuses on the physical, hormonal, and biomechanical changes women experience throughout life, from adolescence and menstrual health to menopause and beyond. It combines gentle manual therapy, pelvic floor support, targeted exercise, lifestyle advice, and education to help improve mobility, comfort, and function.

At One Health Osteopathy Clinic in Tunbridge Wells, our osteopaths use an evidence-informed, whole-body approach to support women with pelvic pain, endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic organ prolapse, bladder or bowel changes, and other women’s health concerns.

Your initial appointment includes a comprehensive case history, postural screen, and physical examination. Where appropriate, we may assess the pelvic floor or abdomen and screen for bladder, bowel, or sexual function changes. Hands-on treatment, pelvic floor education, and tailored rehabilitation exercises are provided during your session.

We also discuss lifestyle, nutrition, stress, and gut health, all of which can influence hormonal balance and pelvic function. Every plan is bespoke, designed to support your body’s natural capacity to adapt and recover.

No, a pelvic floor examination is entirely optional. It is only performed if requested and with your ongoing, informed consent. For many women, this assessment provides valuable information to guide rehabilitation and improve pelvic health outcomes.

Yes. Breathing plays a crucial role in pelvic health. The diaphragm, abdominal wall, and pelvic floor work together as part of a pressure system, so how you breathe directly affects how your pelvic floor muscles contract and relax.

We use breathing re-education techniques and may include hypopressive exercises, a specialised, low-pressure method designed to reduce intra-abdominal pressure and support the pelvic organs. These techniques can be particularly helpful for pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic floor weakness, or bladder and bowel concerns. Your osteopath will teach you how to integrate these strategies safely and effectively into daily life.

During perimenopause and menopause, hormonal changes can affect joint mobility, muscle strength, posture, and pelvic floor function. Osteopathy may support comfort and function during this transition by improving mobility, reducing muscle tension, and optimising body mechanics.

We also provide exercise guidance, lifestyle strategies, and pelvic floor support to help women stay strong, active, and confident throughout midlife and beyond.

Osteopathy supports pelvic health by improving how the body functions as a whole, including posture, breathing mechanics, pelvic floor coordination, and mobility of the spine, hips, and pelvic organs. These elements are closely interconnected: when they work well together, pressure within the abdomen is better managed, the pelvic floor is supported, and symptoms can often be eased or better controlled.

At One Health Osteopathy Clinic, we look beyond the pelvis itself, addressing muscle imbalances, postural habits, and breathing patterns, and providing exercises to enhance strength, coordination, and pelvic support. Our goal is to create the best possible environment for your body to function optimally and support your recovery or symptom management.

No referral is required — you can book directly with One Health Osteopathy Clinic. If further investigation or specialist input is needed, we will refer you to a GP or Gynaecologist and work collaboratively as part of your care.

The number of sessions varies depending on your symptoms, how long you’ve had them, and your goals. Some women notice improvement within a few sessions, while others benefit from a longer-term, structured plan. Your osteopath will discuss a personalised plan at your first appointment and adapt it as you progress.

We recommend wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move easily and that we can assess movement and posture, such as leggings, joggers, or shorts, and a T-shirt or vest.

During your appointment, your osteopath may need to examine or treat specific areas of the body, so you might be asked to remove certain items of clothing. This is always explained clearly beforehand, and we will only ever ask you to undress to the level you feel comfortable with and that is necessary for assessment or treatment.

Your consent is central to everything we do. You are always in control and can choose to keep more clothing on, pause the session, or decline any part of the examination or treatment at any time.
