Mummy MOT Post-Natal Assessment

At One Health Osteopathy Clinic in Tunbridge Wells, we offer the Mummy MOT®, a specialist postnatal assessment designed to support your body’s recovery following childbirth, whether you had a vaginal or caesarean birth. This comprehensive service can be booked from six to eight weeks post-birth, but it is also beneficial months or even years later if you’re still experiencing postnatal symptoms or want to optimise your pelvic and core health.

Pregnancy and birth places unique demands on the body. Muscles stretch, posture changes, ligaments soften, and the pelvic floor and abdominal wall work harder than ever before. The Mummy MOT® helps you understand how your body is healing, provides tailored rehabilitation strategies, and guides you safely back to exercise and everyday activities, all with your goals and lifestyle in mind.

What makes a Mummy MOT® at One Health Osteopathy Clinic unique is our whole-body, integrative approach. We don’t just focus on individual muscles or isolated areas, instead, we assess how your posture, joints, breathing mechanics, pelvic floor, abdominal wall, and overall movement patterns are working together. This allows us to address not only local changes from pregnancy and birth but also the wider mechanical, hormonal, and lifestyle factors that influence your recovery, strength, and long-term pelvic health.

Importantly, the findings from your Mummy MOT® form the foundation of an ongoing, tailored treatment plan. Whether that means hands-on osteopathic care to restore mobility and balance, targeted rehabilitation to rebuild strength and coordination, or lifestyle strategies to support energy, mood, and pelvic function, our support doesn’t end with the initial assessment. We work with you over time to help your body recover fully, adapt to the demands of motherhood, and feel strong, confident, and resilient for the future.

What the Mummy MOT® Includes

Each Mummy MOT® appointment is tailored to your individual needs and includes:

  • A detailed case history and discussion about your recovery, lifestyle, and goals.
  • A full postural screen to assess alignment and movement patterns.
  • A pelvic floor muscle assessment (if required), with guidance on how to correctly contract and relax these muscles.
  • An abdominal assessment to check for muscle separation (diastasis recti).
  • Screening for bladder, bowel, or sexual function changes.

Following your assessment, you’ll receive:

  • Personalised education and advice tailored to your needs.
  • A bespoke rehabilitation and exercise programme designed to support safe, progressive recovery.
  • A written report outlining your assessment findings and recommendations.

Our osteopaths’ additional postgraduate training allows them to perform internal vaginal examinations of the pelvic floor muscles and organs. This is completely optional and will only ever be performed with your request and ongoing informed consent.
