Scar Therapy and LymphaTouch
At One Health Osteopathy Clinic in Tunbridge Wells, we provide specialist scar therapy with LymphaTouch® to support healing and improve tissue health following surgery, C-section, hysterectomy, mastectomy, burns, accidents, or trauma. Scar tissue can sometimes lead to tightness, sensitivity, discomfort, swelling, or restricted movement, even many years after the original injury. Our evidence-informed, hands-on approach aims to restore mobility, reduce pain, improve appearance, and support your body’s natural healing processes.
We have particular expertise in working with women recovering from caesarean sections, hysterectomies, and breast surgery, but scar therapy can benefit anyone living with restrictive or painful scar tissue, whether recent or years old.
Who Is Scar Therapy For?
Scar therapy and LymphaTouch® treatment at One Health Osteopathy Clinic in Tunbridge Wells is suitable for adults of all ages who are experiencing discomfort, tightness, sensitivity, swelling, or other concerns related to scar tissue, whether the scar is new or many years old.
You might benefit from scar therapy if you have:
- Surgical scars: including caesarean section, hysterectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, joint replacement, or keyhole surgery scars.
- Postnatal scars: including C-section scars or perineal tears following childbirth.
- Trauma or accident scars – from cuts, burns, or injuries that have affected tissue mobility.
- Post-burn or graft scars: where the skin feels tight, sensitive, or restricted.
- Long-standing scars: even those that formed many years ago but still cause discomfort or limit movement.
Scar therapy can help if your scar:
- Feels tight, painful, sensitive or numb
- Appears thickened, raised, or puckered
- Causes pulling, restricted movement, or stiffness in surrounding tissues
- Leads to swelling, fluid retention, or lymphatic issues
- Affects your confidence, comfort, or quality of life
Whether you’re recovering from recent surgery or living with a long-standing scar that still impacts your mobility, function, or confidence, our osteopaths take a whole-body approach to scar therapy, helping you move more freely, feel more comfortable, and support long-term tissue health.
What Scar Therapy Involves
Scar therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment designed to:
- Improve tissue mobility and elasticity
- Reduce tightness, pulling sensations, and sensitivity
- Break down adhesions and fibrosis
- Support lymphatic drainage and reduce swelling
- Improve circulation and stimulate tissue repair
- Enhance the appearance, texture, and feel of scar tissue
We often combine scar therapy with LymphaTouch®, a clinically developed medical device that uses precisely controlled negative pressure (vacuum) and vibration to lift and mobilise tissues, improve blood and lymphatic flow, and release deeper fascial restrictions. This dual approach is particularly effective in improving scar pliability, drainage, and overall function, as well as reducing post-operative swelling.
Treatment may also include complementary osteopathic techniques such as soft tissue release, visceral mobilisation, breathwork, and lymphatic massage to support whole-body recovery and optimise your healing potential.
Scar therapy is safe to begin from around six weeks after surgery, provided the wound has fully healed, stitches have been removed, and there are no signs of infection.
Why Choose Scar Therapy at One Health Osteopathy Clinic?
Our team combines advanced training in scar rehabilitation with a whole-body osteopathic approach. We don’t just look at the scar itself, we assess how it may be affecting your posture, breathing, mobility, lymphatic drainage, and overall movement patterns. This comprehensive view allows us to address the mechanical, structural, and circulatory factors influencing your recovery, helping you regain comfort, confidence, and function.
Whether your scar is weeks or years old, targeted therapy can often lead to significant improvements in mobility, appearance, sensation, and tissue health, and can help prevent future complications.

Scar Therapy and Lymphatouch in Tunbridge Wells - Frequently Asked Questions
LymphaTouch® is a medical device that applies gentle negative pressure (vacuum) to the skin, lifting and mobilising the underlying tissues. This stimulates lymphatic drainage, enhances blood circulation, and encourages the body’s natural healing processes. It’s particularly beneficial for breaking down adhesions and improving tissue comfort, movement, and pliability.
After surgery or trauma, scar tissue can sometimes adhere to deeper layers of fascia, causing pain, pulling, sensitivity, and restricted movement. LymphaTouch® gently lifts and separates these layers, improving circulation, reducing tightness, and promoting better tissue mobility. Over time, scars often become softer, more flexible, and less noticeable.
Scar therapy and LymphaTouch® can support a wide range of scars, including:
- Fine line or superficial scars
- Hypertrophic (raised) scars
- Scar contractures
- Surgical scars (including laparoscopic/keyhole incisions)
- Burns and traumatic scars
Treatment is effective for recent scars (from 6 weeks post-surgery) as well as older scars, even those that are many years old.
We do not directly treat keloid scars with LymphaTouch®, as they are caused by excessive collagen production that extends beyond the original wound. The current gold-standard management involves compression therapy and silicone dressings, which we can advise on during your consultation.
Yes. While we don’t apply LymphaTouch® directly to keloid scars, we can still support your recovery. Our osteopaths can work on surrounding tissues to improve circulation, reduce tension, and support lymphatic drainage. We may also use techniques to enhance abdominal and visceral function, improving the overall environment for healing, without aggravating the scar itself.
Scar therapy can typically begin from around six weeks after surgery once the wound is fully closed, there are no signs of infection, and stitches are removed. For swelling and lymphatic drainage support, LymphaTouch® can sometimes be used earlier if you are referred by your specialist consultant or GP.
Your appointment begins with a detailed case history, where we discuss your surgery or injury, how the scar has healed, and any symptoms such as pain, tightness, or numbness. This helps us tailor the treatment to your needs and ensure it’s safe and effective.
We then carry out a gentle manual assessment of the scar and surrounding tissue. If using LymphaTouch®, a soft-sealed applicator is placed directly on the skin to deliver controlled suction. Most people describe a gentle lifting sensation, the treatment is typically relaxing and comfortable. If the scar is particularly tight, you may feel mild pulling, but this should never be painful.
The number of sessions varies depending on the type, age, and severity of the scar and your individual goals. Most people notice changes within 2–3 sessions, but a series of treatments spaced over several weeks usually offers the best results.
We also provide personalised home care advice, including:
- Safe scar massage techniques to maintain softness and mobility
- Breathing and relaxation strategies to improve tissue healing
- Recommendations for creams, oils, silicone products, or compression garments to enhance hydration, elasticity, and scar appearance
These self-care techniques complement your in-clinic treatment and help achieve long-lasting results.
Results vary by individual, but many people experience:
- Reduced tightness and pulling sensations
- Improved tissue mobility and comfort
- Less pain, numbness, and sensitivity
- Softer, more pliable scar tissue
- Enhanced lymphatic drainage and reduced swelling
- Visible improvements in scar appearance
Whether you’re seeking help for a recent surgical scar, recovering from a C-section, or dealing with a long-standing area of discomfort, scar therapy and LymphaTouch® at One Health Osteopathy Clinic in Tunbridge Wells can help restore mobility, improve comfort, and support your body’s natural healing.
Scar therapy is generally very well tolerated. Some people may experience mild redness, light bruising, or slight tenderness. We recommend drinking up to 2 litres of water in the 24 hours after treatment to support lymphatic drainage. It’s also advisable to allow at least three days between sessions to give your tissues time to respond and heal.
